Beds on Board wants to turn dormant boats into floating B&B accommodation
A new company that hopes to turn dormant boats into bed and breakfast accommodation made its London Boat Show debut last week (9-18 January).
Billed as ‘another way to stay’, peer-to-peer marketplace Beds on Board was founded by Sir Peter Ogden and brothers Jason and Tim Ludlow (pictured above).
The company claims that the average boat is only used for 5% of the year, leaving 347 days when it is unused floating real estate doing nothing but racking up mooring costs.
The service is free to sign up to and only charges fees when a booking is made. Owners can choose who stays, when and for how long.
No licensing is required as the boats stay static for the duration of the rental period, and all payments are securely processed through PayPal.
Jason Ludlow said of the project: “This is a community where everyone benefits. The owner has full flexibility while guests get access to great locations.”
In the future the company hopes to develop a large network of agents and marinas all across the UK.
