Classic motorboats heading for inaugural Reading auction

Steam and diesel powered vessels up to 100 years old will be going under the hammer at the Classic Boat Auction

An historic collection of motorboats, skiffs and cruisers will go up for auction at Beale Park next month (7 June) as part of the inaugural Classic Boat Auction.

With lots ranging from £30 to £300,000, there is something for every budget, including nautical memorabilia and some truly vintage vessels.

The standout item at this Reading event is a 1914 MB278 Naval Pinnance (pictured) built by W White and Sons of Cowes.

A survivor of three battleship sinkings and a serious dockyard accident, this fully-restored centenarian has an estimate of £50,000-£70,000.

Other items of note include a 1961 Chris Craft Continental, a 19-foot wooden freshwater vessel with its original 283cu Chevrolet motor, which is expected to fetch upwards of £30,000.

However, if you’re not looking to push the boat out that far, then the smaller lots include a Victorian scrap book and photograph album that chronicles some of the earliest motorboats.

This historical gem is due to go under the hammer for around £50.

Run in partnership with Special Auction Services and Henley Sales & Charter, the Classic Boat Auction will get underway at Beale Park, near Reading at 1pm on Saturday 7 June.
