RYA instructors create boating board game

The game aims to make learning about boating and navigation more fun for younger students

Whilst the immediate appeal of boating is obvious to most, getting young sailors excited about learning the RYA syllabus can be much more of a challenge.

That’s why Lymington-based RYA instructors Robin Pratt and Duncan Wright came up with the idea for ‘Good to go… Boating’ – a new board game, which aims to make learning about boating fun.

The game, aimed at children aged eight and above, challenges players to make their way around the board and back to the marina by answering a series of nautical questions.

Topics include weather, knots, navigation lights and buoys, but along the way several penalty cards can slow your progress and hamper your voyage.

“The game has taken almost two years to create and refine,” said Duncan. “We are grateful to a variety of people, ranging from the RYA to our local Sea Scouts and sailing clubs, for their invaluable input.”
