A major UK marina is to host its own version of the reality television show Survivor.
Three members of the public will live for two weeks on an 11m x 5m island made from two pontoons, undertaking gruelling daily challenges.
The stunt is called Castaway Island and has been organised to promote the Boardwalk, a shopping mall alongside Port Solent Marina near Portsmouth.
Passers-by and boaters in the marina can vote on what the contestants eat and what mental, physical and skills tasks they perform each day.
After a week people can start voting their least favourite contestants off the island, eventually leaving the winner, who will take home £5,000 and gifts from Boardwalk shops.
Webcams will be set up so members of the public can view the contestants online, but the island will be close enough to the shore for people to see and hear what is happening as well.
Organiser Sam Fay said the island would not interfere with boating movements in the busy marina and had been organised with the backing of marina management.
Watch Motor Boats Monthly’s website for the first news of the three volunteer local residents who have been chosen as the contestants.
The stunt runs from Saturday 26 February to Friday 11 March.
