The new head of boating development at British Waterways has laid down firm plans for the future.

Sally Ash wasted no time after being appointed to the post this week in outlining six key objectives that she said BW needed to address.

She said: “There are many areas where our policies, procedures and strategies are not clear, need updating or to be applied more consistently across our network.”

Ash outlined her immediate priorities as:

Improving the gathering and sharing of information about the market;

Recommended videos for you

Reducing obstacles to new investment in offline marinas;

Improving the management of BW’s online moorings business, ensuring a fair trading framework and a consistent approach;

Developing consistent and efficient systems for the enforcement of licence conditions;

Clarifying service standards for boaters and boating businesses;

Continuing work to provide better information to boaters, including the boater’s directory.

Ash joined BW in 1976 and her career with the organisation has included marketing and business development, as well as the establishment of WOW, an initiative to encourage children into boating.
