UK makes formal representations to the Dutch authorities
The Dutch authorities have expressed their apologies over the treatment meted out to some British boaters after it was revealed that Dutch customs considered the use of UK-bought red diesel illegal.
In an email to MBM, Greg Houston, a member of the UK’s Permanent Representation to the EU, said that his department had made “formal representations” to the Dutch Government though the UK’s embassy in The Hague.
He said the embassy “expressed its displeasure at the treatment British boaters had received”, adding that the Dutch were “very apologetic.”
This latest news comes on the back of confirmation from Holland’s Ministry of Finance that it would no longer consider red diesel bought in the UK illegal.
However it is still advisable for all British boaters travelling to Holland to keep receipts showing that they filled up in the UK.
