Save Our Service (SOS) campaigners were out in force at the Henley Regatta at the weekend
Another weekend, another successful rally for the Save Our Service (SOS) campaigners, who are opposed to the proposed sale and rental of lock houses along the Thames, as they petitioned at the Henley Royal Regatta.
A SOS spokesperson said, “We had a wonderful Regatta and received fantastic support from everyone we met; the local people of Henley, those visiting the town and the boating public. We added a significant number of signatures to our petition and everyone seemed to be enjoying the wonderful atmosphere.”
Despite an announcement by the Environment Agency (EA) that it will stall the disposal of lock-keeper cottages for at least six months , SOS vows to fight on against the plans until they are aborted altogether.
A familiar face has also lent his support, with actor David Suchet, chairman of the River Thames Alliance saying, “I am implacably opposed to this action. All proposed action on the sale or renting out of lock premises must cease. All options to improve the management and service of the River Thames must be collated with stakeholders with the EA.”
