A dog is being held responsible for shooting both its owner and the owner’s boat. Matthew Markum was securing his aluminium boat to a pontoon after returning from a duck hunting trip on Tillamook Bay in Oregon, USA, when Drake, his 3-year-old Labrador, jumped aboard.
This somehow set off Mr Markham’s 12-gauge shotgun, which had been left with its safety catch off. The blast injured his legs and buttocks and punched a hole through the hull of the boat above the waterline.
Mr Markham was taken to hospital where he is recovering from his wounds. His father, Henry Markum, described the shooting as “just one of those things”, while Sgt Todd Hoodenpyl from Oregon State Police said that the dog is the prime suspect.
