The MBM fleet experiences an idyllic passage to Jersey
There was a civilised start for the fleet this morning. Crews awoke clear blue skies and still conditions in Cherbourg. With an excellent forecast, the fleet departed en masse at 11am FST. By 11.30am boats were rounding Cap de la Hague and were entering the Alderney Race.
Breathless, Maxum 3000 on its final approach to St Helier (near Portelet Bay)
It was a gorgeous passage down to Jersey. Heading south between the French mainland and Sark, fleet boats experienced mirror calm conditions, and with four knots of tide underneath them, boats were soon entering St Helier.
On arrival, Richard assisted boats with fuelling and Claire helped assemble the 19 boats in the visitor basin. MBM fleet boat Indie (a Jersey-based boat) joined us today, welcome to Pam and Lee.
Yesterday’s casualty Broom 39kl Crescendo II remained behind in Cherbourg. Owners Terry and Graham returned to the UK by ferry to source a new starter motor. By 7pm, they were back in Cherbourg, the new starter motor had been fitted, and Crescendo II was back up and running again. Weather permitting they will rejoin the fleet tomorrow in St Helier.
Tomorrow is a rest day and crews are already planning their day in Jersey. Hire cars have been booked for sightseeing and assaults on St Helier high street for some VAT-free shopping are being arranged. In the evening there will be a group dinner at St Helier Yacht Club.
