The Essex Hydroplane Club who will be bringing circuit racing back to London’s Dockland in August have brought the date of their two-day meeting one week forward from the Bank Holiday weekend to August 17/18. It will be the first appearance of the sport in Docklands since the last international meeting took place on the Royal Victoria Dock in 1987.
The highlight of this year’s programme will be the heat in the Formula 2000 world championship. These craft are virtually identical to International Formula 1 outfits apart from their engines which are restricted to standard production types rather than special fuel-injected custom built racing units.
The major benefit of the alteration in date is that the meeting will no longer clash with the Honda Cowes Classic offshore race between Cowes and Torquay, Britain’s premier powerboat race, slated for August Bank Holiday.
