Robert Avis has been awarded the OBE in the New Year Honours List for services to the Royal Naval Reserve.
He is specifically mentioned for his work as the Director Operational Performance (Reserves) this year which involved him in the first compulsory call-up of Naval Reservists since Suez and is also cited for his achievements as the Project Director for the Centenary of the Naval Volunteer Reserves, also in this year.
In addition to his role on the Motor Boat & Yachting team Avis is an RYA Yachtmaster instructor and examiner. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in the Royal Naval Reserve last year, has eleven sea commands and one shore command to his credit and is currently the Director Personnel (Reserves).
