To be extended across all their marinas
MDL Marinas is trialling a new recycling scheme at its Port Hamble Marina.
In association with boating environmental group The Green Blue, the new trial aims “to better understand how one recycling solution could be developed to cater for all boaters”.
The company intends to introduce the recycling facilities at all its marinas, following consultation with The Green Blue and feedback from marina users.
The new recycling facilities have already been set up, in addition to the previous facilities available for berth holders and visiting boaters.
These are divided into general waste, mixed glass and recyclable waste (paper, plastic bottles, cardboard, newspapers and magazines and all food and drink cans).
Mike Lawrence from MDL said: “As household recycling becomes more prevalent there is a growing desire for boat owners to recycle onboard.
“We wholly support The Green Blue and are working in close partnership to get the best out of the trial. This trial is very important and is all part of an effort to reduce the amount of landfill by redirecting waste to either energy recovery or recycling schemes.”
MDL has already introduced trade recycling facilities at its marinas as well as provision for dealing with oil, fuel, cleaning, maintenance, anti-fouling, marine paints and waste.

The Green Blue is an environmental campaign set up by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association and its aim is to educate and inform the recreational boating community about its impact on the environment and how this can impact can be minimised.
