Dag Pike looking smooth at 75 years
Pre-race favourite Fabio Buzzi has had to retire from the third leg.
The legendary Italian was leading the fleet in his revamped Red FPT, which is in fact a reliveried Cesa, one of the most successful powerboats of all time and one of Buzzi’s own designs.
After clocking speeds of above 100mph in the Irish Sea run to Bangor, from Wales, the pre-race favourite has had to pull out moments ago (2pm).
Leading the fleet now is Blue FPT, a second Buzzi-designed boat run by Greek duo of Vassilis Pateras and Panos Tsikopoulos.
The navigator on board is the oldest man in the fleet and MBY contributor Dag Pike (pictured).
Dag, 75, was navigator in the last race, in 1984, for Fabio Buzzi when he won the event outright.
