Among the onslaught of new big, outboard powered weekenders we’ve seen launched over this show season the Oryx 379 proved to be the best value package of the lot
The show boat, with a full turn key spec, came in at £360,000 inc VAT. That, for a boat with sleeping space for four, a generous standard kit list and three thumping great 300hp outboards capable of 50 knots is excellent value.
There are places where corners have been cut, like the exposed and rather basic hinges on locker lids and cheap plastic latches where other shipyards would use metal, but these can be forgiven in light of how much boat you’re getting for the money.
Space down below is especially impressive and luxurious enough for a couple to spend a week or more on board in comfort thanks to the comprehensive galley and big bathroom.
We will reserve final judgment until we’ve driven it, which we’re planning to do very soon.
