007 gets a real boat driver
If you haven’t already seen it in Motor Boat & Yachting magazine, here’s a shot of Sunseeker boss Robert Braithwaite as he appears in the new James Bond film Quantum of Solace.
The Poole firm’s managing director acts as driver for Bond on a classic Sunseeker sportsboat.
The scene, filmed on location in Italy in April 2008, features Bond in an original Sunseeker Sovereign 17 – one of the company’s very first open-cockpit sportsboats. The Sovereign is one of three Sunseeker boats that feature in the new film.
Commenting on his cameo role in Quantum of Solace, Robert Braithwaite said: “You can’t get any higher profile than a James Bond move. It’s therefore very exciting to be personally involved in the latest 007 release and actually appear alongside Britain’s most famous secret agent.”
It’s the fourth consecutive time Sunseeker’s motoryachts have appeared in a James Bond movie.
Filmed on location in Panama in March 2008, the film also boasts one of the biggest ever 007 boat chases, featuring a Sunseeker Superhawk 43.
Also look out for the Sunseeker 37 Metre Yacht M4.
Originally built in 1970, the Sunseeker Sovereign 17 was fully restored in 2005 to celebrate the company’s early years.
