Absolute 70

Four IPS drives for Absolute's flagship

What they say
“The Absolute fleet is moving into a higher bracket. The 70, the company’s new flagship yacht, is designed to establish new standards in the sector with state-of-the-art materials and design, and considerable focus on liveability.”

What we say
What’s wrong with the humble porthole, we ask?

The increasingly large and strangely shaped windows of today’s luxury motor yachts may enhance a boat’s interior, but can look rather odd from the outside.

In our opinion they make this new 70 look slightly too busy in the illustrations, although the acres of window space will undoubtedly be a strong selling point. Look at the interior renderings and you can see why. Both owner and guests will be kept in some style with full-beam spaces that are more mini-apartment than cramped cabin.

In the saloon, too, there appears to be more window than wall, with two retractable glass-panelled roofs in the hardtop letting in yet more light from above.

The engineering is just as innovative with four Volvo IPS pod drives delivering what is claimed to be a smoother, quieter and more efficient drive.

Throughout the boat, the colour palette of the woods, varnishes and brushed-metal finishes are pure Med, as is the layout. The U-shaped dinette on the foredeck with adjustable backrests even has its own fridge to keep guests adequately fed and watered. The aft-deck space is similarly equipped with bar and grill, and as befits a boat of this size and status, there is ample room to store your skipper and crew, too.

Absolute promise a host of “exclusive technological innovations” when the boat is launched. We wait with bated breath for its inaugural appearance at the Cannes Boat Show in September. The price is currently undisclosed, but you can expect something in the region of £1.5 million inc UK VAT.
