The new 31m model was developed in collaboration with legendary car designer Chris Bangle
The Palm Beach International Boat Show 2019, which opens this weekend (Mar 28-31), is the chosen venue for the US launch of the Sanlorenzo SL102Asymmetric.
The Italian powerhouse claims that this is the ‘world’s first asymmetric motoryacht’ and that by only having a passage down the starboard side on the main deck it has been able to make use of an extra 10 square metres throughout the interior.
The starboard deck leads directly from the cockpit to the foredeck where there is a large raised sunpad and sheltered dinette. In the saloon a pair of sliding doors grant access to the deck, which has a drop-down portion to create a balcony spacious enough for a couple of chairs and a small table.
On the port side, the saloon extends out to the extremes of the yacht’s beam where there are floor-to-ceiling windows adjacent to the dinette, delivering spectacular unbroken views over the water.
A raised deck on the port side arcs over the saloon from cockpit to foredeck allowing crew to move around the yacht and hang fenders.
Despite its lack of a side deck, the design team, which includes the celebrated car designer Chris Bangle, have ensured that the yacht’s profile appears the same when viewed from either side.
The master cabin is forward on the main deck and this too has a balcony on its port side giving the owner a private terrace on the opposite side of the yacht to the one that guests might use. Alternatively, there is a layout for the American market where a country style kitchen occupies this area and the master cabin moves below deck.
Guests are catered for on the lower deck across three generous double ensuites and one twin. The crew quarters, which include a mess and dedicated captain’s ensuite, are located forward on the lower deck.
According to Sanlorenzo’s “made to measure” philosophy there is scope for major customisation aboard the 102 and it’s safe to assume that the yacht will be finished with the yard’s usual fastidious engineering detail.
Away from the clever interior, performance is impressive for a yacht of such dimensions and with a pair of 2,434hp MTU M96 engines the 102 will achieve a top speed of 28 knots.
