Steve Curtis is US champ

Southampton man takes the States - again!

Southampton powerboat star Steve Curtis has won the US Offshore World Championship.

It is the latest in Curtis’ long list of powerboating gongs, which include eight world championship wins in the sport’s elite series, Class 1.

The popular throttleman has been competing in the SBIP-APBA Offshore World Championship with US man Tom Abrams, in US-1 Reliable Carriers.

The final rounds took place in Key West, Florida, where the duo were tied in first place with Talk-N-Trash after finishing third in the first race and winning the second.

They took the title in the Superboat 750 class with a win in a nail-biting decider.

“It was huge, a big win for us,” said Curtis afterwards. “Tom and I have been coming here for years and have always had a monkey on our back, so it was great to finally get the championship.

“It was a really good race with Talk-N-Trash. They were chasing hard, but everything went perfectly for us and they weren’t going to catch us.”

Curtis now turns his attentions to the final two races of the Class 1 series, in Dubai on 6 and 13 December, where he is lying fourth overall with, uncharacteristically, no chance of making the top spot.
